Former J&K CM Ghulam Nabi Azad to contest Lok Sabha Polls from Anantnag

Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Jammu and Kashmir CM, to contest Lok Sabha Elections from Anantnag

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad will run for the Lok Sabha elections from the Anantnag parliamentary seat. This marks Azad's first electoral contest after his departure from the Congress in 2022, where he formed his own party called the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP). The decision was announced by DPAP leader Taj Mohiuddin following a meeting of the party's core committee.

Azad's past:

Azad has a long political career, having served as both a Union minister and the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He resigned from the Congress citing disillusionment with the party's leadership and internal processes. Azad criticized the lack of genuine elections within the party and accused the leadership, particularly Rahul Gandhi, of being disconnected from ground realities.
By contesting from Anantnag-Rajouri, Azad steps into the electoral arena with a fresh political identity. His decision to form DPAP and contest the elections signals a new chapter in his political journey.

Election details:

The Lok Sabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled in five phases, beginning on April 19 with Udhampur. The Anantnag-Rajouri seat, from where Azad will contest, is set for polling on May 7. The results will be declared on June 4.

This move by Azad injects a significant player into the electoral fray in Jammu and Kashmir, adding further complexity to the region's political landscape.
